Me, I:

Hi, I’m Kristina. I am working for Engineers Without Borders Canada in Malawi on the Water and Sanitation team.

Fastest life story ever:

Born on PEI, one younger brother, awesome extended family across Canada (and spreading!). School highlights were a great group of girls, learning French, playing trombone, and lots of math and science. Then to Renaissance College at the University of New Brunswick, where I met another amazing group of people, studied interdisciplinary leadership and math, completed two internships, first joined Engineers Without Borders, and grew up a little bit. After, spent a summer working with migrant farm workers on literacy skills through Frontier College, a while doing project research for a Fredericton non-profit, some time at UPEI, then was a policy and programs intern with the Government of PEI.

EWB:

Engineers Without Borders Canada. These are my stories, and aren’t necessarily those of Engineers Without Borders Canada. Engineers Without Borders Canada (EWB) is in no way affiliated with any other Engineers Without Borders organization (such as Engineers Without Borders USA). All references to EWB will refer to EWB Canada, unless otherwise specified. You can visit their website at www.ewb.ca

WatSan:

EWB’s Water and Sanitation team in Malawi. There are about 15 to 25 of us, depending on the time of year.

APS:

African Programs Staff. AKA the name of our jobs with EWB.

Waterpoint:

A point (place) for accessing water. Sometimes that means a river, stream, or lake, or well and bucket. Most often when I use it, I’ll mean a borehole…

Borehole:

A well with a pump for filling buckets with water.

Malawi:

Where I’m working. I’ll try to update more specifically to a community as I settle in.

Lilongwe:

The capital city of Malawi.

Chichewa:

A language spoken in many parts of Malawi.
